Business Challenges

At OttieUp, we recognise that maternity leave is a significant period of change and transition, impacting not only mothers but also managers, peers, and the overall business.

We understand that when your talent goes on maternity leave, you may be unsure if or when they will return. It's a period of uncertainty, and as an employer, you face challenges in managing maternity leave and ensuring a smooth transition back to work.

The good news is that 98% of mums want to return to work after maternity leave. Their decision is influenced by the experience they have during maternity leave and their return to work. When mums don't feel connected, supported, and seen during this period, by the employer, their motivation and readiness to return and remain at work decrease.

Lack of parental policies and support can silently undermine your business's stability & profitability.

Impact on YOUR Business

  • Lost Talent: The departure of experienced mothers leads to a talent drain that affects performance and innovation.

  • Financial Costs: Replacing an employee costs 6-9 months of their salary on average, not to mention hidden costs.

  • Knowledge Drain: Losing experienced employees means losing years of valuable knowledge and expertise.

  • Lost of Productivity: On average, it takes 5 months to reach optimum productivity, incurring indirect costs for your organisation.

  • Reputation Damage: Negative reviews and word-of-mouth can deter potential candidates, making it harder to attract top talent.

  • Gender Pay Gap: The lack of support perpetuates the gender pay gap 14.9%, as women are often forced into lower-paying roles.

At OttieUp, we specialise in helping employers drive employee engagement through all stages of maternity leave—before, during, and after—so your top talent can continue driving business growth. We know that highly engaged teams show 21% greater profitability across industries and company sizes, in both good and bad economic times.

Women make up 50% of the population, and by age 45, 82% of them are mothers. Working mums represent a significant, untapped talent pool. This highlights the crucial need to invest in maternity support as a strategic business move. Companies with over 30% women executives are more likely to outperform those with fewer, and the most gender-diverse companies have a 48% higher likelihood of outperforming the least diverse.

By investing in your existing mum talent through OttieUp, businesses can increase employee tenure and achieve sustained, profitable growth—the ultimate goal for any business.

£88 billion—that's the cost to the economy of barriers to mums in paid work. Creating an inclusive and family-friendly environment will have a ripple effect across your team, business, society, and economy, unlocking greater productivity and social well-being.

Behind Ottie UP

Hello there, I’m Kamila, a business psychologist who has supported individuals, teams, and businesses at every stage of the employee cycle throughout my career. From recruitment and onboarding to coaching and development, it has always been my personal mission to empower people to align their strengths and purpose with their careers and lead fulfilling lives.

One of the most pivotal moments in my career came when I supported my best friend during her return to work after maternity leave. Witnessing her challenges illuminated the urgent need for robust support systems during such transitions. It sparked the founding of OttieUp to empower and guide mothers navigating the return-to-work journey.

As I reflect on my journey, I've realised that my diverse background uniquely positions me to be a trusted partner for both mothers and businesses seeking effective strategies for managing these transitions. With a blend of empathy, expertise, and unwavering dedication, I am committed to fostering positive and impactful transformations in both professional and personal spheres.
